Boy Scout DayToday is, apparently, Boy Scout Day. To honor the Scouts, I'd recommend compiling a list of fictional boys who would be Boy Scouts. Maybe say what they'd badge in, who'd be really good and who'd be the naughty one of the group, and so on and so forth.
The Book BonanzaLet's tie in to badges and winning things by creating book awards, or something of the like. This can go one two ways: first, creating actual awards--like an award show--but bookish. Or, create book badges, perhaps to fill up a reader's tote as they accomplish all the bookish things.
I'll be doing...
The Book Bonanza
Imagine the following conversation:
Non-bookish person: "Wow, I like your bag!"
You, a very bookish person: "Thanks! It's a tote. A book tote."
NBP: "Okaaay. I like all your pins!"
YAVBP: "Oh, thanks! They're my bookish badges. I get one for certain book accomplishments."
YAVBP: "It's like the Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts--I get a super cool badge for my book tote to show that I accomplished something spectacularly bookish."
NBP: "Oh! Why didn't you say so? I'd like three boxes of Samoas and three of Tagalongs, please."
Okay, so maybe not everyone would understand it, buuut how cool would it be if readers got badges? Like THESE!
25 books read // 100 books read // finished a series // read a 500+ page book // read a 1000+ page book //
read a book in a day // read 10 owned books // read a book in another language // read 10 diverse books //
donated books // bought from an indie // defeated a book slump // read out of comfort zone //
read an adult/mg/na // read a self-published/indie book //
read a book with an embarrassing/don't-let-my-mom-see-this cover // read a classic // read non-fiction
I can't think of anything that's not a cliche or obvious HELP!
Did you make up badges/awards or form a fictional Boy Scout troop today? Whatever it is, don't forget to link up! And remember to come back in two days for more fun posts--you can see what's up next here.
