Blog Tour: Nemesis by Anna Banks

Hello, forgers of magical, mystical worlds! Today is all about Nemesis, the latest from Anna Banks. For the blog tour I was asked to do a makeup look inspired by Nemesis's book cover, so that's exactly what I did. I put together a little video showing how you can create your own Nemesis look, complete with some serious eyeliner work. And at the end of it all, there's a sweet giveaway you can enter--good luck on beating your bookish nemesis!

I guess this isn't technically a guest post since I'm the one doing it, buuut I'm going to show you how you can get the Nemesis look, like so (just ignore me trying to pose like the cover model O K A Y):

Aaand here's how you can do it!

STEP ONE:
Hair! I followed this tutorial to do a sort of braided faux-hawk with a dutch braid, but I'd also recommend this tutorial if you want a dutch braid pony that's closer to the cover.

STEP TWO:
The basics! The very last thing I did was my eyes (well, and my lips). Foundation, powder, blush, eyebrow stuff--get all that done first.

STEP THREE:
The eyes(hadow)! I explain this in the video--and attempt to show it--but I did my version of a smokey eye with a light, creamy color as the overall base; a silvery/bronze/sparkly shadow as my light color; espresso (so, a dark brown) for the dark color, which started at the outer eye then was brought over toward the center like a futuristicish look. And of course I blended it all. (Which does NOT show through in the video.)

STEP FOUR:
The eyes! I used eyeliner in attempt to imitate a much more subtle version of what the cover model has around her eyes, and I just freehanded it and went for it. (The hardest part is symmetry.) I forwent anything over the eyebrows because I felt it was getting kind of cartoony and a bit much.

STEP FIVE:
Finishing touches! I added mascara and put some mocha freeze lipstick on my lips, then voila! The look's complete.

The princess didn't expect to fall in love--with her nemesis.

Princess Sepora of Serubel is the last Forger in all the five kingdoms. The spectorium she creates provides energy for all, but now her father has found a way to weaponize it, and his intentions to incite war force her to flee from his grasp. She escapes across enemy lines into the kingdom of Theoria, but her plans to hide are thwarted when she is captured and placed in the young king's servitude.

Tarik has just taken over rulership of Theoria, and must now face a new plague sweeping through his kingdom and killing his citizens. The last thing he needs is a troublesome servant vying for his attention. But mistress Sepora will not be ignored. When the two finally meet face-to-face, they form an unlikely bond that complicates life in ways neither of them could have imagined.

Sepora's gift could save Tarik's kingdom from the Quiet Plague. But should she trust her growing feelings for her nemesis, or should she hide her gifts at all costs?

Anna Banks is the NYT Bestselling YA author of The Syrena Legacy series--Of Poseidon, Of Triton, and Of Neptune--as well as Joyride and Nemesis. She lives with her husband and daughter in the Florida Panhandle. She has a southern accent compared to New Yorkers, and she enjoys food cooked with real fat. She can’t walk in high heels, but she's very good at holding still in them. If you put chocolate in front of her, you must not have wanted it in the first place.

The super duper fine print that's not so fine:

  1. Your tutorial was so cool! If I were good at makeup (I can only barely do some eyeliner), I'd totally try it out!
If I were to try a character's look, I think it'd be someone from the Throne of Glass series of ACOTAR since Maas talks a lot about the tattoos the characters have!

  3. Wow, great makeup! I would love to be able to do that but I'm not good with makeup and only wear the basics :)
