So, here's the deal with this book. I liked the first book in this series. I did! But I think it was hard to love it when there was so much hype--some self inflicted--and when I love this author's other series so damn much. All that said, HELL YES, I STILL WANT THE SEQUEL. But it scares me. I fear the romance is going to go a certain way and I really, really don't want it to. We'll just have to wait and see what insane, emotional, gut-wrenching, swear-inducing thing this author does next...in four freaking months.

I find books--and movies and shows--dealing with teen pregnancy to be interesting (maybe because it's the closest I get to seeing my ships in the future living happily ever after with little babies?), and I don't see it very much in the former. So when a book like that pops up I want to read it, and this one seems extra compelling because 1) the guy's name is Taco and 2) I think this has a larger focus on the teen father. Plus, the cover suggests this contemporary will be on the lighter, fluffier side, and I love books like that. In other words: this book, I want it.

The thing about finishing a series is that your left with this emptiness because it's all over forever and you'll never be able to go back (unless you reread it). But every once in awhile, an author gives us a delightful, terrifying treat and, after over ten years, returns to that world with a new installment (or two!) to one of your favorite series. My excitement for this is unreal, and thank gosh the release date is just around the corner. Welcome back, my babies, welcome back. (Though you never really left, did you?)

Finding Neverland with Nora & Kettle

Hello, lost boys and girls! In case you didn't know, I'm kind of sort of obsessed with Peter Pan retellings. Despite my favorite tale clearly being Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan retellings tend to be the most successful. So when I discovered this latest version, a retelling set in the 1950s that explores internment camps, I was super excited. Not only does it sound fantastic, but it's also a pretty original take on a tale that's been told many, many times. And because I'm so stoked for this book--Nora & Kettle--I asked Lauren Nicolle Taylor if she'd be up for an interview, and she so kindly said yes! Here's what she had said about Nora & Kettle, but be warned: you're going to want this book as soon as possible.

Recap: December to January

Once the quarter ended (seriously, college is such a reading killer), I did my best to read my ass off and try to get my initial reading goal of 100 books achieved. (After always being behind a dozen or so books I lowered it, but as I started catching up and saw a higher number as achievable, I gradually raised it.) AND I DID IT! I finished the year having read 101 books, including graphic novels and an audio or two and some picture books and school books and novellas. For the past couple years I've made 100 books my reading goal and never got near it, so I'm thrilled to have finally done so. Let's take our noses out of our books for a second and raise a book to 2016!
