Top Ten Tuesday (141)

is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Tuesday's theme is...

One thing I have a kind of hard time thinking of is books with people of color, e.g., various ethnicities, races, and cultures, and with a focus on more than just Caucasians. So for this week's topic, which focuses on diversity, I've attempted to put together a list of ten books featuring just that. They may not all have a main character who's a person of color, or the concept of other races and cultures may not be a large part of the book, but I've tried to have one or the other at least somewhere, and somewhere noticeable, and of course, I like the book.

What are your favorite books with people of color and that show different cultures?

  1. GIRL OF FIRE AND THORNS hit my list, too! Oooh, and nice, TIGER LILY! I loved that one! Oh, and yes, ELEANOR AND PARK is also a good choice! I haven't read a lot of the other titles yet!

  3. I almost put The Summer of Chasing Mermaids on my list, but it filled up quickly. It's there in spirit. I had so many possible books that I decided to narrow it down to 2015 releases. Great choices!

  4. The Summer of Chasing Mermaids was such a surprise for me - I expected a light, fluffy summer contemporary but got a book that actually tackled several issues, including diversity :)

  5. I had Eleanor and Park on my list too! I've seen The Summer of Chasing Mermaids a lot so maybe I should go look into it. Hmmm. I just had a look on Goodreads for The Girl of Fire and Thornes and that looks interesting too. Great list!

  6. I just finished The Summer of Chasing Mermaids and it's amazing! I love how Sarah write the diversity in it. I've read Perfect Chemistry too and though I didn't really like it, it still good to read about interracial romance.
    Great list!
