Top Ten Tuesday (138)

is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Tuesday's theme is...

I have yet to read my favorite book of 2015. Putting together this list was really hard because I haven't felt super wow/in love with my many books so far this year. I mean, I almost put a novella here (Jennifer E. Smith's Happy Again), and I had to mention more than one book from a series because otherwise this list wouldn't have ten books. (Note: I have yet to read Mortal Heart, shame on me.) An honorable mention should go for a book I didn't exactly read: the audiobook version of Code Name Verity (read it last year), which was just sensational. I definitely liked all the books on this list--the first five probably have my highest ratings of the year so far and the majority of the very few five (and even four and up?) star ratings I've given. There's a certain Beauty and the Beast retelling on this list by a favorite favorite author, and I highly doubt it will make my top ten list at the end of the year, and it really only made this one because I didn't know what else to put. (And that super sucks.) In short: I have most definitely liked and really, really liked a lot of books this year. (But I'm like nine books behind on my Goodreads goal so shush.) But I have loved or been wowed (by a book as a whole, not just certain scenes) by very few books, and that's a total bummer. Get on it, 2015 releases. You have six months.

What books are you favorites so far this year?

  4. Gone Girl made my list too. I've been reading a lot of older books this year, so it was pretty easy to come up with 10 for me. And that is why ACOTAR did not make my list. It was good. But I didn't love it.

  5. So much yes to your Top Ten. I love all these fantasy books. Dark Triumph was SO GOOD. And ACOTAR *sigh* so much love for these.

  6. Really interested in Rae Carson's trilogy. I've heard such mixed reviews on it though - but I'm very glad to hear you like all the books. (Maybe this'll be the push I'm looking for to start this series.) Also want to read Grave Mercy. It sounds really good and like just my kind of book. Have no idea what How To Outswim a Shark Without A Snorkel is, but with that title and cover, it sounds hilarious.

  7. I think that not all 10 books are super-wow on my list, so I know what you mean. So I picked my ten overall favorites so far. I know my list will be more complete in December! I LOVE that you read and loved all of Rae Carson's books this year and that you're reading Robin LaFevers. Love them both!! A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES is probably my favorite book so far this year, but I am a huuuge B&B sucker. Sorry you didn't love it as much!! I still need to read CODE NAME VERITY buuut I need to be in the mood to be sad!

  9. Ah, I've heard such great things about Grave Mercy so it's high on my TBR list. I'm glad to see you enjoyed it so much.

  10. Gone Girl almost made my list too! I went for Sharp Objects bc I liked it slightly better. Gillian Flynn scares me though... how does she come up with such messed up stuff?? A Magic Dark and Bright looks really good. It's definitely on my TBR.
