Top Ten Tuesday (133)

is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Tuesday's theme is...

I never really need to fill a bag with books for the beach, because I never really go to the beach. First off, I live in Washington, and though I'm near a lake, I don't go because there are too many people, sand, water, and books don't mix, I either burn or stay whiter than a Great White Shark, and I can't swim. I'm much more comfortable sweating in the heat on the couch in front of a fan and eating Otter Pop after Otter Pop. But still, there are books that would just go so well with being read on the beach (but pleaseee, keep them away from the water). So here are ten books I own and have read that would go just swimmingly with your darling beach bag (and please ignore my horrible photo).

It would've been too easy to just list ten contemporary novels, so I tried to put some variety on here. You have mermaid-esque people and a story that's tons of fun, and then one that's practically flawless and filled with teenage crime solvers like Criminal Minds--and one book with problem solving of the ghost variety. There's a novel set in the Australian Outback about a girl who's kidnapped by a man who loves her, and another that's set in a series of befores and afters. And it's not a beach bag without a Sarah Dessen novel, so might I suggest my favorite? I've also recommended a lovely romance filled with several standout characters, and a book about hostages at sea a la Captain Phillips--and you best remember who the captain is. Finally, there's a contemporary novel that's so damn fluffy you'll be crying clouds or cotton candy, and a beachy read that can't be missed--for it is, after all, about the daughter of the one and only Captain James Hook.

What books will be in your beach bag this summer?

  2. Oh Of Poseidon is a great choice! I have the first two on my Nook and I always forget about them. I will have to add them to my summer TBR. I also haven't read Along for the Ride yet either, although I have owned it for years! Dessen is a great summer choice. Great List!

  8. Wow you've put a lot of thought into this list and it shows. :) Well done for avoiding the full contemporary list! I love the sound of Hooks Revenge! I've never heard of it before so definitely adding that to my list to check out! I also haven't yet read anything by Sarah Dessen so it's great to have a favourite recommended.

    Great list,
    Happy Reading
