Top Ten Tuesday (132)

is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Tuesday's theme is...

This post is actually kind of incomplete and sort of inaccurate. You see, with this week's Top Ten Tuesday being a freebie, I could post whatever I wanted--and I had an idea. But I only had so much time to put it together (by the time I thought of the idea and in order to also get my schoolwork done), and when I tried to compile ten things I was drawing a bit of a blank--though I do have ten (eleven)! What I came up with are ten tattoos that are inspired by YA books, some that I actually do want, and some that are simply just ideas that I found interesting. Eventually, I'd love to redo this post and make it more thorough and detailed and go through all the books I've read and really narrow it down to what book inspired tattoos I might really, truly get (especially since there are books I'd want to represent as a tattoo but I couldn't think of any designs). Although that really depends on if I ever get the guts to get a tattoo (it's permanent, ahhh).

Throne of Glass
If I were to get a tattoo for the Throne of the Glass series I don't know that it'd be this quote (or even just a quote), but it'd be something spectacular and badass because, hello, Throne of Glass.

The Water and the Wild
I adored this novel, and I'd get a tattoo of a black diamond instead of a white circle because #FifeandNortherliesFTMFW.

The Hunger Games
I've thought before about a Hunger Games tattoo kind of like this, with the outlines of each bird from each cover. But they'd be smaller and closer together and possibly in color. I looove white ink.

Ink Exchange
I was in love with the idea of this tattoo when I first read Melissa Marr's book forever ago. Looking at it now, I still like the concept, but I would totally do away with the Celtic stuff. I like how the book's cover has more wings--actual wings--and if I were to redesign this I'd probably add more emphasis on the wings and make them glorious.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone
Karou has blue hair and tattoos and is totally badass, and while I can't say I'd get eyes/samsas tattooed on my hand, true story is pretty cool.

The Fault in Our Stars
So I tried to make this myself but all the pictures of heels on Google were heels with, like, health problems, so I had to go over someone's pre-exisiting tattoo. But it's the idea. I like how one okay is a question and one isn't and I'd want them on my heels/back ankles/whatever--you take one step, the question mark says, "Okay?" and then you put your other foot forward, "Okay."

The Selection
This is a pretty simple tattoo to represent this series, and though I love this series, I don't know that I really want it tattooed on me, at least not this.

Beautiful Creatures
I've always liked that quote: "You are such beautiful creatures."

Shatter Me
Really, the entirety of this series could be tattooed on my body because the prose is lovely, but hello, a quote about books!

Grave Mercy
And then I'd have the quote with a tattoo of a wolf because wolves are fucking badass (like this graphic).

Bonus: Fantasy
I love a lot of fantasy books and worlds and stories, and I think a dagger--not this one--would be an excellent representation and freaking awesome tattoo.

What book inspired tattoo would you consider getting?

  1. I really want to get True Story tattooed on my wrists. I have a tattoo on my arm that is in need of covering, so I decided that if I ever have the money, I'm going to cover it with the Slytherin crest. I'd love to get the tiara from The Selection, too. Awesome topic choice!

  2. Super fun topic! I don't have any tattoos (commitment issues with it) but I love and am fascinated by them. Really great list!

  3. Really original topic! I could never get a tattoo, my dad would kill me, it would hurt too much (plus I hate needles!) and I would be so worried that they would mispell it or get it wrong, but these are really great.

  4. I would love another tattoo, this time to do with books. I have such terrible decision making skills with so many incredible books and quotes out there! One day I'll decide! I love your picks!

  7. Cool ideas!! I really love the True Story one and THG birds. Okay and I sort of also love TFIOS one even though I could never get something so popular tattooed on me.

  11. I love the idea of this post. Most people just get song lyrics tatted, but what about books?!
I think I'd go with: (1) "And in that moment, I swear, we were infinite" from Perks of Being a Wallflower, (2) the silhouette images of Peter Pan, Wendy and her two brothers flying with the quote "to die would be an awfully big adventure", or (2) a quote from The Infernal Devices series.
Clearly I've thought about this :)

  12. So do you already have any literary tattoos then? Do tell. None of my currently have anything to do with books, but I was thinking of doing a collection of some smaller ones on my right underarm sometime this year. Time shall tell. But my co-blogger Erika, girl is covered in totally badass book tatoos. Narnia, Neverending Story, Lord of the Rings, it's swoon worthy, tell you what.
