Top Ten Tuesday (130)

is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Tuesday's theme is...

I don't ever really like to say that I'll never read a book. Nonetheless, here are ten books that maybe I won't ever read, but for the most part do want to read, if I ever find the time. A lot of them have to do with the books' movies, so oops, do not judge a book by its movie!

I can't stand The Princess Bride so there's pretty much no way in hell I'll ever read the book. Moby Dick is looong, and there was a student teacher in one of my classes who said she'd rather gouge her eyes than read it. I do want to read Gone with the Wind, but good gosh it's long, and I saw part of the movie and found Scarlet O'Hara (though her name is fantastic) to be awfully annoying. I watched a portion of Les Miserables and never finished because I had no idea what was going on and it was super boring. Fifty Shades of Grey, though no offense to people who did read and like it, makes me want to laugh. Where the Red Fern Grows and Old Yeller have two things in common, and I do not care to cry forever so no, read them I shall not. Stephen King novels seem incredibly terrifying so no thank you (and the bit I read of The Shining wasn't all that impressive). Out of Africa seems like my kind of book, but I saw the movie and the ending pissed me off. And if Bridge to Terabithia is anything like the stupid movie then that'd be a negative, Ghost Rider. (Good gosh, I sound like a Negative Nancy.)

What books do you think you might not ever read?

  1. LOL! I only ranted about 50 Shades this week! There's no chance I will never read Old Yeller either...unless I feel like being heartbroken and scarred for life! Happy reading! :)

  2. I think I took two or three weeks reading GWTW, and I loved it. It has so much stuff the film left out, like Scarlett's other children. The hardest part about reading it, for me, was all the overwhelming racism, which was bad even by the standards of that time and place. There's even pro-Klan sentiment, as Rhett, Ashley, and a few other guys are in the KKK and proud of it.

I doubt I'll ever read Fifty Shades of Grey, for numerous reasons. It's such a disturbing glorification of domestic abuse and a misrepresentation of real BDSM.

  3. I don't think I'll ever read Moby Dick. It just looks so boring! I'm not a fan of Stephen King either, so that's a big no no for me too. Great list! My TTT!

  5. Gone With the Wind and Moby Dick almost made my list as well. There are a bunch on there that I will also probably never get around to or have any interest in. Great list!

  6. Fifty Shades of Grey made my list too. I doubt I will ever read Gone With The Wind either, and I totally agree with you on Les Mis (the movie was so long and boring, why I wasted three hours of my life watching it I will never know!) so I'll probably never read the book.

  9. Fifty Shades of Grey is on my list too! I also put Carrie by Stephen King, since I'm not a fan of horror.
    Great list!

  10. I'm sad you don't want to read Princess Bride. I love that book. Also I'm seeing lots of Fifty Shades on everyone's list. It makes me wonder who has actually read it. Great list!
    Check out mine!

  11. I'm still trying to process that you don't like Princess Bride.
I can agree on the WAY too long books, but I do love Gone with the Wind movie version.

  12. Cujo, Old Yeller and Where the Red Fern Grows are BIG NO books for me. No animals can be hurt! But, The Princess Bride...INCONCEIVABLE!

  13. 50 shades is on about every list I've visited. I also agree with Stephen King books, I'm too much of a whimp for that.

  14. I've seen 50 Shades on quite a few lists, so don't feel too bad. I'm not interested in a glorified abusive relationship.

  15. Ah, I am sad that you'll never read The Princess Bride and that you don't like that movie! It was actually a good book (I was rather surprised)!

Yo are NOT missing anything by bypassing Stephen King's books. I've read a couple of his books and was not all that impressed. For being horror books they were shockingly not frightful in the least.

The only two books/series that I have pegged as "Never Ever Going to Read" are the Fifty Shades and Twlight books. They are not for me in the least bit!
