For more of my top posts, check out these: my top ten books of the year, books I put at the head of the class, a popularity contest, my favorite elements of fiction, and the best in show!
Note: This is 2014 as a whole. It doesn't matter what year the book was published or if it's YA; if I read it in 2014, it works. Also, all the pretty headers and graphics are from Jamie's master post.
Number of Books Read: 78.
Number of Rereads: 6. (Twilight and New Moon by Stephenie Meyer, Wounded and Prey by Stephen Cole, and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin).
Genre I Read Most: Contemporary, maybe?
Best Book I Read
So, so good.
Book I Was Excited About and Thought I'd Love More But Didn't
I'd heard a lot about this book and was expecting something good, but it was kind of a doozy and disappointing.
Most Surprising Book
I thought I might like this, but I really, really liked it!
Book I Pushed People to Read
Okay, so I didn't Throne of Glass in 2014. But I did read Heir of Fire and The Assassin's Blade. And whenever I saw someone wondering if they should read this series I was all YES YES YES.
Best Series I Started
I decided to go with a series I've read more than one book of and that began before 2014 and, my gosh, Lion Heart, please be nice!
Best Sequel
I've always thought of a sequel as a second book, so I did two: a second book and not-second book. Killer Instinct was flawless like its predecessor and so, so freaking good. And Heir of Fire is part of Throne of Glass, so there.
Best Series Ender
I guess this isn't exactly a series ender, but of the ones I read, this was the most satisfying overall.
Favorite New Author I Discovered
Must. Read. Rose Under Fire.
Best Book From a Genre I Don't Typically Read
History isn't really my thing but this was really good.
Most Action-Packed/Thrilling/Unputdownable Book
Not exactly action-packed, but so thrilling and therefore unputdownable and I just love this series so much.
Most Likely to Reread
The first time I read this it was somewhat hindered by hype--but still really good--so I need a reread.
Favorite Cover of a Book I Read in 2014
I couldn't stop staring at the ARC I was reading.
Most Memorable Character
The characters in this series are pretty much A+++, except for the Bastard King of Adarlan who's only acing Bastardry and Evilness.
Most Beautifully-Written Book
Mafi's prose is so pretty.
Most Thought-Provoking Book
Animals, animals, animals.
Book I Can't Believe I Waited Until 2014 to Read
I don't like crying, so.
Favorite Passage/Quote From a Book I Read
I never, ever keep track of these things, but I love this one, from Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone:
Shortest and Longest Book Read
Shortest at 40 pages!
Longest at 565 pages!
Book That Shocked Me Most
Eventually, it hits this part where it's just like BAM BAM BAM and doesn't stop.
OTP of the Year
CELAENA AND CHAOL FOREVER.
Favorite Non-Romantic Relationship of the Year
Ivan and all his friends is the cutest (and tear-provoking).
Favorite Book I Read in 2014 From an Author I've Previously Read
I'm cheating by just putting my favorite book of the year (I have read one of her books before).
Best Book Read Based Solely on a Recommendation/Peer Pressure
Cheating again by mentioning a book I read for book club, but I loved this.
Newest Fictional Crush From a Book Read in 2014
ROWAN.
Best 2014 Debut
Excellent book, excellent debut.
Best Worldbuilding/Most Vivid Setting
This may not be the nicest of settings, but I want to go to it so, so bad.
Book That Put a Smile on My Face and Was the Most Fun to Read
The adorkable levels are high.
Best Book That Made Me Cry
Stupid, wonderful book.
Hidden Gem of the Year
Just read it.
Book That Crushed My Soul
"Kiss me, Hardy," my ass.
Most Unique Book
NEVERLAND!
Book That Made Me Most Mad
Something did not go Rachel's way and that's one of the reasons (besides time) that I haven't read the next book yet.
New Favorite Book Blog
Shout-out to Stacee at Adventures of a Book Junkie, Danielle at Love at First Page, and Katie at Polished Page-Turners, who cohosted the Mara's Retribution readalong with me in 2014!
Favorite Review I Wrote
I have no idea, so let's go with Heir of Fire because Heir of Fire.
Best Discussion/Non-Review Post
I love my Be Our Tattooed Guest posts!
Best Event I Participated In
I met Sarah J. Maas and told her that I needed my ship to stay together forever and ever, and asked her not to kill of anymore good characters.
Also, I had way too much fun with my Halloween feature Don't Look Behind the Bookshelf this year when I dressed up as fictional characters!
Best Moment of Bookish/Blogging Life
Going to book signings, reaching 300 blog followers, having new bookish friends, etc.
Most Popular Post on My Blog
My blog has a perpetual problem of getting filled with sp@mviews, so I don't really get to know a post's accurate number of pageviews. (It's ridiculous and annoying.) So I'm going to take a guess and go with a post that had the most comments: The Far, Far Away TBR + Giveaway.
Post I Wish Got More Love
Really, everything but Top Ten Tuesdays and Waiting on Wednesdays. They tend to get the most comments and pageviews. It's nice, but I'd love to get love on reviews and other posts, too.
Best Bookish Discovery
In the past, like, month, I've done two orders from Book Outlet and got lots of books for cheap, so...
Completed Reading Challenges and Goals
I reached my (lowered) Goodreads challenge! And I read Middle Grade, Young Adult, New Adult, and Adult. Woohoo!
Book I Didn't Read in 2014 But is Top Priority in 2015
I've heard excellent things.
Non-Debut I'm Most Anticipating
I'm also very much anticipating books that are part of series, but this is the first in a series, AND I NEED IT.
2015 Debut I'm Most Anticipating
Cheating because I've already read this but before I did, this was my most anticipated debut.
Series Ending or Sequel I'm Most Anticipating in 2015
There are MANY (Penryn and the End of Days, Throne of Glass, The 5th Wave, etc.), but few have covers, and this is one I'm super excited about that does have a cover.
One Thing I Hope to Accomplish in My Reading/Blogging Life
Read 100 books!
2015 Release I've Already Read and Recommend to Everyone
Be prepared to be hit by a mack truck over and over and over again.
I very much enjoyed this, and now I need to read all of Natalie Whipple's books.
Aaand...done! Whew, that's a long post! What are your top bookish things of 2014?
CHALAENA <33 You've inspired me to pick up both Code Name Verity and The Selection Series, both of which I was not that excited to about. The Winner's Curse and COTAR is on my 2015 list too and will get read asap.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Happy New Year!
HEIR OF FIRE all the way! :D
ReplyDeleteI had Code Name Verity sitting on my shelf for a while before I read it - and I wish I'd picked it up sooner! What a brilliant, heartbreaking book. Definitely want to get hold of Rose Under Fire next.
Haven't heard of a few of these books! I definitely recommend The Winner's Curse, though. It was great!
