Top Ten Bookish Resolutions for 2015
The thing about New Year's resolutions is that if I make a list, I don't usually do it. Plus there are book slumps and sleep and school and blahh. And I also need to exercise and eat healthier but I'm lazy and I like quick and yummy food. But in 2015, I really want to get more books read and make this blog better, for me and for you. And so, here are my ten (or eleven) bookish resolutions for 2015!
For Reading
I always fall behind on these and it stresses me out. Especially for eARCs. And then I feel bad, because I was supposed to have a book reviewed by a certain date and didn't. Plus, then I have a pile of books stacking up and threatening to tip over. I've been more picky about what I'll down on Edelweiss or request on NetGalley, but still: more shelf control, and more time spent reading books on time.
Read backlisted ARCS.
Once upon a time, I went to ALA Midwinter in Seattle. I was a totally newbie, and I had grabby hands and took way too many books and dear gosh, now I have so many backlisted ARCs I need to read. My goal is to read at least one a month, though two would be nice, but I don't want to overwhelm my reading for the year.
Read more books I own.
Just about every time I get a new book(s), my brother is all: "You don't need that! You already have a thousand books you haven't read and never will!" Well, BROTHER. I will read more of them in 2015, and you know what, I ALWAYS NEED MORE BOOKS.
Try to get an author's book(s) read before meeting them.
It's kind of awkward when I meet an author and they're signing my book and I have nothing to say because I've read nothing they've written (except for Tweets, maybe). If I could have at least one of their books read, and preferably the one they're on tour for, that'd be ideal. And I'd be hitting two birds with one stone because I'd also be reading more books I own, so woohoo!
Read 100 books.
I have made this my goal two years in a row and I did not reach it at all, so I'm making 2015 my Goodreads Reading Challenge bitch.
For Blogging
This shouldn't be so hard, but I'm a procrastinator and I have school and I get into reading slumps and ahh. But no. I'm determined to post more reviews in 2015 (especially since I'll be getting more books read).
Post more variety.
Right now I mainly post reviews, Top Ten Tuesdays, Waiting on Wednesdays, and some blog tours and features in between. But I want more. I want more variety, more discussions, more things bookish and all that fun stuff.
Balance with school.
I want to post at least four posts a week, but I also need to make sure I get all my schoolwork (and stupid school readings) done too.
Comment, comment, comment.
I love getting comments, and I need to get better at commenting back and wandering off into the blogging world and commenting on other blogs all on my own.
Schedule ahead.
I'm pretty sure that if I schedule a lot of posts and don't just do them the night before or the day of, then blogging will be so much easier and I'll have more time to read and watch The Walking Dead.
Bonus: For Fun
I didn't do anything for my twenty-first birthday, and YALLwest just happens to be the weekend after my twenty-second birthday. And I'm only two states away and my mom likes the beach and my sister is like YES. This is a POSSIBILITY.
What are your bookish and blogging goals for 2015?
Oh, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'll be spending the evening with a 2015 book and AMC's marathon of The Walking Dead (even though I own all four seasons but whatever).
Good luck with meeting your Goodreads challenge goal. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteI think you've got some great achievable goals. I really need to read more books I own, I hope to do that this year! But we'll see... I get too tempted by pretty books. I hope you achieve your goals in 2015. My TTT
ReplyDeleteGreat list! I also need to read more books I own! I really should have put that on my list. I did include read 100 books and comment more. YALLwest sounds amazing! I hope you get to go!

I feel like read more books that I own is on my list all the time... I just have so many books that I need to read! Staying ahead of schedule is something I did in November this year because of NaNoWriMo and it was beautiful! I plan on staying on top of my posts so much more in 2015, it's freeing and allowed me to do spur of the moment posts without feeling bogged down by my regular posts. :D This is a great list, I hope you find success in it!

Great goals/resolutions! I definitely need to stay on top of review copies, read more of the books I own, post more variety, and comment more as well. I have found that scheduling ahead is definitely very helpful, but it's also really hard to do sometimes. I usually do memes and occassionally discussion posts ahead, but reviews can be tricky when I haven't read enough ahead. Good luck!

I also have to read more book that I own. This year was almost everything about ARCs, so I have a huge pile of books by my own!!
ReplyDeleteThose are great goals, hope you archive them all!

Like you, I want to stay on top of my review copies. It's probably going to take about half the year for me to get through the backlog I've deemed essential, but I want to be in control of the rest. I'm going to try to get to more of the eARCs I've downloaded, but will continue to not feel guilty if I don't get to them. I've given up on the backlisted ARCs and unsolicited review copies. I'll get to them like any other book in my collection and people will have to be cool with that.
ReplyDeleteYES to books you own. My kanye, I own hundreds (like 8 or 9) that I haven't read which OOPS.
Hmmm, the reading an author's books before you meet them thing can be dangerous. Sometimes you discover you don't like their book and then have to PRETEND you have nothing to say which is mega-awkward too. But hopefully that won't happen to you much!
I think these are great some great goals. I really want to read more of my own books too; I'm doing better at this, but it's still a goal. I'd also love to go to more author signings (and yes, reading one of the author's books beforehand would be nice too!!)
ReplyDeleteI'm currently hosting a giveaway ($15 to Book Depository) that requires you to do one of two blog discussions. Since you want to do more variety posts, I thought I'd let you know. :)
