[Spoilers Ahead!]
It's interesting, because I have way to less to say about The Evolution of Mara Dyer than I did about The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (and used less sticky notes!). I think that may be because here, we know the character's and Mara's...whatever it is better. Unbecoming was a build up and a tease, and now we're just waiting to see what the hell is going to happen. And now there's more Jude, which is bad bad bad.
And what's up with all those scenes in India? They made no sense the first time I read the book, and the second time around I'm still like HUH? What is going on? Is this Mara, or her grandma? Or someone else? And the name Mara is mentioned, which is totally weird. Interested to see how this is answered in Retribution.
Now. Let's talk about Jude. Hey, Jude...why are you such an asshole? We learn about this "power," but what is he...a lizard? Did his hands GROW BACK? Dude's just psychotic and crazy, and a great villain. And how did his parents just...disappear? How does any of this work?
But then there's Dr. Kells. WHAT ARE YOU UP TO? How did she know about Mara, and everyone else? What's her endgame? Also, what's Jaime's power? Basically, this book (and series), is just: WHAT.
What's up with Mara and Noah when they kiss? What is up with that? Also, side note: forever stoked that Mara did not believe Kells when she told her Noah was dead. Because, yeah, I'm sure your pants aren't on fire, bitch. GO MARA. (But seriously, can this be confirmed as not true because NO.)
I'm very eager to see how everything plays out. Mara is a puppet in the hands of evil doctors and mad scientists, and Mommy and Daddy have no idea and I want to know their--and her brothers' reactions--when they found out Mara was right all along. Can this series end with a Happily Ever After? Mara, WHAT IS YOUR RETRIBUTION?
