This Tuesday's theme is...
Top Ten Books People Have Been Telling Me I MUST Read
I've actually gotten better at reading popular, pushed-on-me books, like Throne of Glass, Angelfall, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, If I Stay, Code Name Verity, and Under the Never Sky. But I still have--and, unfortunately, probably always will have--those books that I haven't read yet when I really, really should. And here are ten of them!
a contemporary
This seems exactly like the kind of book I would love. It's pretty ridiculous that I haven't read it yet, especially since EVERYONE seems to love it so much. And get this--I OWN IT.
a dystopian
I'm pretty sure everyone knows this series is HUGE. And hopefully, that hugeness and hype won't work against the book when I finally read it. Which will hopefully be soon (and may the series finale be nice to me).
a fantasy
Even before this book was released it was full of HYPE. So, so many excellent things are said about it (and I've heard the last line is like whoa). And again, I OWN THIS.
a historical
I've avoided this book for one main reason: I WILL PROBABLY MOST DEFINITELY CRY. I've heard it's just fantastic, and I hope I love it. But I can only read this when I'm ready to hardcore sob over a book (which may be never, thanks to The Fault in Our Stars and the book that shall not be named).
a novella
As of late last year I have read all the Throne of Glass novels, but I still haven't read the novellas. (I KNOW, HOW WRETCHED.) Ideally, I'd like to read them before a reread of the entire series. I just don't really have time for that. So, I'm hoping and planning to read this book ASAP since Sarah's coming to town next month.
a paranormal(ish)
I've always kind of had some interest in this series, but with all the rave reviews for the final book, I just HAVE to read it. I may have a copy of this from the library right this second. I may not be able to fit it into my TBR pile.
an adult novel(s)
I LOVED Eleanor & Park and Fangirl, both of which made Rainbow Rowell one of my favorite authors. And yet, I haven't read any of her Adult books. I think part of me is a little worried I won't love them as much as her YA novels. But from what I've seen, people seem to love these books, too! And once again, I OWN Attachments--but I need to get Landline.
a series finale
Trying to avoid spoilers for this one is not easy, and I know that something happens around a certain page number (I've seen everyone freaking at pretty much that exact moment on Goodreads). I liked Shadow and Bone enough and was kind of meh toward Siege and Storm, but I still want to read this finale (own it!) and see how it all ends. Plus, this is a pretty big series that a lot of people are goo goo over (so, automatic recommendation, sort of).
a middle grade series
If a person hasn't recommended these books, then freaking Tumlblr. I haven't even read the books (though I've seen the movies, and like them) and I ship PercaBeth. Also...all five books exist in my house and four are on my shelf, oops.
a very popular series
{Goodreads (is this really necessary?)}
BEFORE YOU GO CRAZY AND CAST AN EVIL SPELL ON ME: I have actually read the first four books. But that was back in elementary school, when I thought it was kind of cool to have read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in, like, a month. And I wasn't as much of a reader then and the wait been books was so long and they were so long. Don't worry--I've seen all the movies. But I know--I NEED TO READ THE BOOKS.
What books do you still need to read that everyone shoves on you?
P.S. I was just on Goodreads and saw Dangerous Girls (a cray cray), which I should've put on here. And I could've. But I don't know what book to take off!
P.S. I was just on Goodreads and saw Dangerous Girls (a cray cray), which I should've put on here. And I could've. But I don't know what book to take off!
P.S.S. Some quick recs from moi (AKA if you've been thinking of reading them, please do so): The Morganville Vampires (series), Tiger Lily (retelling), How to Love and Wild Awake (contemporaries), Endangered (realisticish).
Legend is also on my list. Winner's Curse is simply breath taking and that last line is a HUGE doozy. :) Glancing at your recs and I see a couple that I might look into. :)
ReplyDeleteI like how you divided these into genres. And yes, you need to read Percy Jackson and Harry Potter.
ReplyDeleteThe Book Thief should have been on my list, too.
I love the lay out for this! If I could recommend ONE thing only from this list, it would be the ToG novellas. I actually never read novellas, but I was going crazy waiting to get my hands on CoM, and I actually think the novellas give you more/better character development than ToG and they impart some important information I don't think you'll get otherwise!
ReplyDeleteI love The Book Thief! Harry Potter is a definite recommendation!
ReplyDeleteMy Life Next Door is totes adorbs. Well, the first half. I worn you that the second half is sort of like a different book. I actually liked WITWT better, but that's been pretty mixed around the community.
ReplyDeleteLegend is pretty solid, though I haven't gotten to the series ender yet and that might change my feels depending.
The Winner's Curse is totally boss but not really feelsy. Well, not for me, but it has been for some people so I hope you are one of those people.
OBVIOUSLY BOOK THIEF OBVIOUSLY
I actually am with you on this. I still need to read the novella even though I have it.
YES YES YES. THIS. MUST READ SS&D. The ending might not work for everyone (actually probably won't), but I hope you love!
Warning: Landline's pretty good but I thought her YA books were much better. I also had trouble relating to marriage problems because not married.
I just started with Percy Jackson (well, restarted) and it's a lot of fun. The first book is a mixture of campy (haha, pun) and awesome fantasy action.
FINISH HP, WOMAN. THOUGH I DO NOT ENVY THE PAIN COMING YOUR WAY.
I like how you separated these by genre! The Book Thief made my list too. But you have to finish Harry Potter. The movies just don't do the books justice!
ReplyDeleteWow your list is good, but then at the same time it makes me kinda sad you haven't read some of these yet.
ReplyDeleteYou really must finish Harry Potter, like MUST!
Whoever recommended Legend to you has very good taste, the series is AMAZING!
I'm totally with you with the Percy Jackson books, I think I own 6 and I've only ever made it as far as book 3, not because they are bad but just because I put it down and forget to pick it back up!
You've got some really good books on this list, enjoy reading them!
Great picks!! The Winner's Curse and The Assassin's Blade are both fantastic :) PJO didn't do it for me, but maybe you'll like it. HP is always great! Lovely list,
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT

Eeeep...you totally need to get on Assassin's Blade, My Life Next Door, Ruin and Rising and Something Strange and Deadly! They are all SOOOOO good!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Percy jackson series yet either! But I feel like I have because of Tumblr. And Harry Potter?! I hope you end up trying to reread the series sometime soon!

I quite enjoyed Attachments and can recommend it, although since I haven't read any of her YA novels I can't say how it measures up to them. It's certainly a slow-moving, character-focused sort of novel, but the main character Lincoln really grew on me and he's easy to root for as a reader.
ReplyDeleteI've seen rave reviews for The Winner's Curse everywhere...I need to get my hands on that one already! Also, I've been seeing lots of good things being said about Dangerous Girls, which by the cover/title I would probably not rush to pick up, but since the buzz has been so good it's definitely on my radar.
I own Tiger Lily so thanks for the rec! I'm not a huge fan of Peter Pan generally, but I've heard that might actually be a good thing when reading this book since it makes some changes to the original. Would you agree?
Also, HARRY POTTER. You know you want to ;P
I didn't looove PETER PAN going into TIGER LILY, but after reading it I am a huge PETER PAN fan, if that helps!
DeleteThanks, good to know! Hopefully I'll have the same sort of reaction :)
DeletePercy Jackson is pretty great (you already ship Percabeth, so you're all set ;) ). The Harry Potter books after The Goblet of Fire are not as good as the first four, in my opinion, but they are still awesome!

THE WINNER'S CURSE!! PERCY JACKSON!!!!! YESSSSSSSSS. Seriously, read those soon. Just do it. They're flawless.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I had this huuuge paragraph all written up nice and tidy. I click publish and bam! No go. Error. Effing Google. Aaanyway, I really don't want retype all of that, so a quick summary. Read Attachments and Something Strange and Deadly, finish Harry Potter, I forgot about Legend and The Book Thief, and I'm bumping up Tiger Lily on my TBR list now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by My TTT! :)
I LOVEEEE My Life Next Door!!! And after today I've realized how many bloggers HAVEN'T read HP!! It makes me feel better about not reading The Hunger Games!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by My TTT
The Percy Jackson books are so much fun, I think you will really enjoy them. And I really need to read Ruin and Rising too! I am so curious how it all wraps up!!! Love the list!
