Be Our Tattooed Guest: Stacie + Darren Shan's Saga

Welcome to Be Our Tattooed Guest, an original feature here on Beauty and the Bookshelf! This feature is all about tattoos of the literary, poetic, and bookish variety, and people showing them off! To learn more about Be Our Tattooed Guest, please go here.

Today's featured tattoo is a wee bit different (and totally cool): an ode to a series and favorite author!

Stacie @ Books Galore

ArtistChris AKA Wizard @ Wizard Tattoo Studio in Surrey, UK.

Design: Darren Shan's series cover art.

Story: I've been a massive fan of Darren Shan's books since I was around 13, in fact Darren Shan (along with J.K Rowling) was the reason I got in to reading. I never read for pleasure until a friend of mine first gave me a copy of Cirque Du Freak. Growing up I always knew I wanted tattoos and I was sure of a few I would get, this being one of them.

The Saga of Darren Shan and The Demonata Series are two of my all time favourite series, and I'll be forever grateful to him for the world he opened up to. The biggest part of me (apart from my daughter, fiance and family) is literature and I don't know who I would be today if I didn't pick up his books. The tattoo is a mixture of a little symbol that appeared on the books from both series. I decided to combine the two, having the chess pieces and flowing lines lines from The Demonater Series and the skull in the middle from The Saga of Darren Shan. Sorry the photo isn't a great one, it's located just below my neck on my back so it's pretty hard to get a photo .

Eventually I would love to get lots more book related tattoo's. As well as this one I have The Deathly Hallows symbol on my right forearm.

One thing people with tattoos get asked time and time again is 'Aren't you going to regret that when you're older?' and I always reply the same, no, I'm not going to regret any of my tattoos because even if in time to come I don't like what they're associated with, for a period of time they were a big part of my life. :)

Thanks for sharing your tattoo and being our tattooed guest, Stacie!
