Interview
Today I’m excited to welcome Chris Harrison, host of popular shows The
Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise, to Beauty and the Bookshelf. Chris recently sat down with seventeen-year-old Paige Patterson, star of the upcoming YA
thriller Bone Deep, which releases
from Spencer Hill Press in March 2015. The following is an excerpt from their
interview.
Chris: Thanks for sitting down with me, Paige. Can you tell us a
little bit about Bone Deep?
Paige: Well, it’s about what happened to me the summer after my
parent’s divorce when I went to Arizona to help my father – he’s an archaeologist – restore the ruins of some ancient Native American cliff
dwellings. Honestly I was dreading seeing my dad, I mean he walked out on my mom
and I, but when I got there, he had a surprise waiting for me. My best friend
Emily.
Chris: This was a girl you hadn’t seen in a long time?
Paige: Yes. She and I grew up together in the Southwest,
following our fathers from one restoration site to another. So I was really
happy to see her again. We were looking forward to spending the summer together,
but then she vanished. The police had no idea what happened.
Chris: How did you react to such a dramatic turn of events?
Paige: It scared me. I knew there was a side of Emily that liked
taking risks, liked doing things that scared her. Everyone keeps secrets but
Emily’s turned out to be even more dangerous than I feared.
Chris: Well this is all very intense but I’m told you also found
love in the desert. Can you tell us more about that?
Paige: When I set out to find Emily, Jalen Yazzi – the son of my
father’s foreman – came with me.
Chris: Was there any point when you suspected him in Emily’s
disappearance?
Paige: Yes. He wasn’t honest with me about his family and that
made me question his motives.
Chris: I know there is no Rose Ceremony tonight, but if there
was, would you give Jalen the rose?
Paige: You’ll have to read the book to find out, Chris.
Chris: It’s been an absolute joy to have you on the show
tonight. I think everyone is looking forward to the release of your book. I
know I’m looking forward to finding out what happened to your friend and if you
and Jalen have a happy ending.
Paige: Thanks Chris. I don’t want to give anything away, but
let’s just say I didn’t get the ending I expected.
Kim O’Brien grew up in Bronxville, New York in an old
Victorian house which her mother claimed was haunted in order to keep her kids
out of the attic. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Emory
University in Atlanta, GA, and a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Sarah
Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. She worked for many years as a
writer, editor and speechwriter for IBM.
She is the author of eight romance novels and seven non-fiction
children’s books. She’s happily married to Michael, and has two fabulous daughters,
Beth and Maggie. Kim loves to hear from readers and can be reached through her
Facebook author’s page.
I love Kim O'Brien books! Interesting to see that she's writing YA fiction now. I wonder how dificult it is to write for a younger audience. What a trial of your writing skills!
