ARC August: The Reading List

I'm sure we all know by now that I am horrible at readathons. I try to bite off way more than I can possibly chew (or read) and end up getting not a whole lot chewed (or read) (see also: Why does my desire to read seem to decline when it's summer?!). Yet here I am, signing up for another readathon. But hey, practice makes perfect, and I need to tell and teach myself that yes, Rachel, you CAN read x amount of books in a month and be successful at a readathon. And also, I have many ARCS that need to be read.

So yeah, I'll have an interview with this author on the blog in September, but that's not why I'm waiting on this book. First off, COOL COVER. And secondly, this sounds similar to The Village and it may be kind of cultish and it's set in the past and I like a creepy-sounding story, so I'm in!

The Far, Far Away TBR + Giveaway

If you're like me, you've got a TBR pile that can wrap around the solar system about five million times. Today, I'm going to make that TBR wrap around just one more time (for now). I've been hearing about a lot of awesome sounding books lately, and of course they're not publishing until far, far away in 2015...or 2016! And I know word-of-mouth (or text-of-blog) is a big way to learn about books and spread the word, so this is me doing that. And to make this even sweeter...there's a giveaway! I hope you learn about some great books that you just cannot wait for and that your TBR explodes!

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox—his partner and closest friend—find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.

Richly atmospheric, stunning in its complexity, and utterly convincing and surprising to the end, In the Woods is sure to enthrall fans of Mystic River and The Lovely Bones.
