Be Our Tattooed Guest: Kylie + Divergent + Tahereh Mafi

Welcome to Be Our Tattooed Guest, an original feature here on Beauty and the Bookshelf! This feature is all about tattoos of the literary, poetic, and bookish variety, and people showing them off! To learn more about Be Our Tattooed Guest, please go here.

This week's guest has not one but TWO bookish tattoos to share!

Kylie Kaemke

DesignDauntless symbol; quote.

Story: The first is the Dauntless logo from Veronica Roth's Divergent series. I got the tattoo to always remind myself that I can overcome my fears and succeed in life. My biggest fear is failure and it has stopped me from achieving my dreams, but reading Veronica's words and taking them to heart really helped me in the fear department. So I got the symbol permanently etched onto my wrist so I will always see it.

My second tattoo deal with a similar concept but instead of a symbol it's words from Tahereh Mafi. In one of her blog posts back in 2011 she gave some writing advice and at the end wrote "the words get easier the moment you stop fearing them." I found this quote originally on Goodreads and I fell in love with it. Like I said before my biggest fear is failure, and my dream is to be a writer. So these words could not be any more truer to me.

These two authors have helped me over come my fears and now I'm just about ready to self-publish my own novel this month. I know it's not a huge achievement to self-publish, but I'm thrilled. I wouldn't be where I am today without them and other authors like them.

Thanks for sharing your tattoo and being our tattooed guest, Kylie!
