This Tuesday's theme is...
Top Ten Books I Still Need To Finish
Today's topic--originally Top Ten Books I Almost Put Down But Didn't--is HARD. I found a few books that I remembered almost putting aside, but not ten--at least, not that I could remember. And while I don't technically DNF books (I try/want to finish everything, but we'll see), I do have a few books in a "may finish later" pile, plus some books that I've been "currently reading" forever. So I figured it'd be easier to mention those! Therefore, here are ten books that I still need to finish...and some that maybe I never will.
I was reading this as a review book and liking it, though it was kind of weird and creepy. I think I was halfway through or something when water spilled all over it. I left the book out to dry and never managed to get back to it.
This was actually pretty interesting, but I don't remember why I didn't finish it. Book slump? Other books needed to be read?
This book was WEIRD. I don't think I ever really knew what was going on, and I had this sort of bored feeling while reading, I think? And I kept reading ahead, so...
I'll probably finish this at some point, but at halfway through I got bored. And I don't really understand the hype. But I liked the movie!
Ugh. I read to like page one hundred then flipped ahead to the end. The MC drove me NUTS, and some other things bugged me, too.
This just wasn't doing it for me. The insta-love didn't work. And there was this sudden paranormalish element that happened out of the blue and I was just WHAT.
DO NOT WORRY. I WILL be finishing this one (it's lovely). I was reading it for book club, didn't finish it on time, and just haven't had a chance to finish it yet!
I don't know why it's taking me so long to finish this book. It's Sarah Dessen! Maybe book slumps?
And here are two books that I almost put down but didn't!
Right away something in this book just drove me CRAZY, but I finished it! And I liked it. Buuut it was messy.
This book had its ups and downs, but at around page one hundred it hit a slow spell and I was not a fan of the writing, but I pushed through to the end (and it was meh).

I found this topic hard as well, as when I usually decide to give up on a book, I don't go back to it. I know what you mean about Nantucket Blue. I have Cruel Beauty and Dorothy Must Die coming up. I'm intrigued to see if I feel the same. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't fill all 10 spots because if I do get bored enough I will just DNF it. City of Bones is a book that definitely takes some major time to get into it, but the rest of the series (at least to me) is a lot easier and quicker to read. And Invisibility is a book that I checked out but never got around to reading, and so many people have had such meeeehhh reactions to it that it really doesn't make me want to pick it up anytime soon.

I liked the City of Bones movie too. I haven't gotten around to reading the books though (I have them).

I read City of Bones a few years ago, not long after City Of Glass came out, and they were some of the first YA books I read so I was fascinated by them but I did stop reading when the prequels and then the second part of the series came out and even though I'm back into them now I can't bring myself to re-read the first ones because I don't think I could get through them again. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of DNF'ing books either! (It makes me feel unfinished...lol!) I should have put City of Bones on my list too! I've made it to about 25% twice...and, um, never any further. >.< I DO intend to finish it someday, though, because, um, FAMOUS, and also I watched the movie without having read the book and I feel like that's a bookwormy taboo. Hehe.

It's so worth sticking with City of Bones and the Mortal Instruments series, and unlike the rest of the world, I really liked the movie too!

Go finish The Moon and More! It is one of my favorite Sarah Dessen books. She just gets better and better.
ReplyDeleteWhile I love CRUEL BEAUTY, I agree that the world building a little messy (very messy). I still loved it, though, once I was able to sort of smooth out the knots. ;)
