YA Superlative Blogfest: Day 4

It's that time of year...when the year is almost over. And when the year starts wrapping up, people typically share their favorite whatevers of the year. For us bookish folk, the Class of 2013 YA Superlative Blogfest is one way to do that. The Fest takes place over four days, with four themes and over forty categories. And of course it's all bookish! Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show, or participate yourself! We first shared what books we thought were at the Head of the Class, then there was a Popularity Contest, and after that we discussed some of our favorites Elements of Fiction. But now it's the last day! So of course it's time to share the...

Best in Show

-This is only from books released in 2013 (unless a category asks otherwise, and a few exceptions).
-I'm not the best at picking and choosing, but I'm going to try!
-I will not repeat books, that way I can share the love for more, but please know that several of these could've gone in multiple categories if it weren't for no repeating!

Favorite Cover
Review | Goodreads
I loved so many covers this year, but I think my favorite is How to Love. I was planning to put this book on my Christmas list, but I ended up buying it myself because that cover stands out and is so pretty and it just makes me drool. (Seriously, I'm pretty sure my mouth is watering right now.)

Cutest Couple
Review | Goodreads
There were several amazing YA couples this year, but they weren't all cute. But if we're talking cute couples with an emphasis on cute, then I'm going to have to go with the couple from a book that's too stinkin' cute: Caymen and Xander. Seriously, these two and this book are just so cute!

Most Likely To Succeed
Review Goodreads
I predict that this book is just going to get bigger and bigger and bigger.

Most Likely To Make
You Miss Your Bedtime
Review Goodreads
I'm cheating. I don't want any repeats, and most of my unputdownables already have a place on this list. I know Cress comes out in 2014, but I don't care. This book was constantly hard to put down. Fortunately, it's almost here. It. was. excellent. EXCELLENT.

Best Repeat Performance
There were a lot of sophomore slumps this year, but not this one. It was an excellent sequel to The Selection, was full of all sorts of THINGS, and made me even more excited for The One (TEAM MAXON!). (I would've also put Unravel Me on here as a tie--I can never choose between the two--but it already has a spot on the list and I'm not doing any repeats.)

Favorite Finale
Review | Goodreads
This is my favorite series, so I'm of course I'm going to mention its finale with the fifteenth installment. *cries* But even then, this finale captured the whole of the series so well. And it was an excellent ending to my beloved series.
This is one of the best series finales I have ever read. And it made me remember why I loved this series in the first place. Extremely well done.

Romance Most Worthy
Of An Ice Bath
Review Goodreads
There was lots of steam this year. (Shane and Claire in the Morganville Vampires, as always. Chapter 62. These Broken Stars.) But I'm going to say that Eleanor and Park's romance needs an ice bath because, hello, WHEN THEY HOLD HANDS IT'S FREAKING HOT (hence why I made this).

Breakout Novel
Review Goodreads
This was maddeningly good and deliciously dark. And that ending, UGH. I'm very excited to read Her Dark Curiosity soon, especially with all the amazingness Megan had in her debut.

Best Old-Timer
Review | Goodreads
Okay? Okay.

Book Most Likely To
Make A Grown Man Cry
Review | Goodreads
There's a reason I call this The Book That Shall Not Be Named. I have never been so destroyed by a book (I didn't think The Fault in Our Stars could be topped). If you read this book and do not cry, then you probably have no soul.

Most Pleasant Surprise
Review | Goodreads
I thought this book was going to be just okay. So I'm pleasantly surprised to say that I really, really liked it and that it's one of my favorites of the year. Plus, it kept me up super later, and that's usually a good sign!

Most Creative Use
Of A Love Triangle
Seriously, this freaking series. I say I'm Team Adam. But yet, when I think about the books I think about Warner. I honestly don't know what I want to happen in Ignite Me and who I want Juliette to end up with. WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME TAHEREH?

Sleeper Hit
Review | Goodreads
This is so much more than a pretty cover. It's an extremely quotable story with lovely prose. And I wish more people would read it.

Favorite Outlier
Review | Goodreads
Sooo...I didn't read any Middle Grade or Adult books this year. Just YA! So I decided to switch it up and mention a book that's a different kind of outlier (and published in 2012): Endangered. I thought this book was very different from most books, and I can't really think of any books like it. But it is amazing, and I'd highly recommend it to everyone.

Your Turn!
I've been answering the questions, but now it's YOUR turn! Below are a few topics, and I want to know what you'd put in those categories. Tell me in the comments!

[Edit: Oops, I did this wrong! I thought I was making a superlative for YOU to answer, not for ME to answer. Oh well, I'll just add my answers and still leave this for you!]

Play The Reading Games
You're a tribute in The Reading Games! Of all the books you read this year (no matter the release date), I want to know which three characters would be your allies, and which three would be your enemies. I look forward to hearing what you have to say, and may the odds be ever favor in your favor!

This isn't of the books I read in 2013, but earlier this year I picked the allies I'd want in The Reading Games for a Top Ten Tuesday topic.

Favorite Kiss
Pretty self explanatory, but what kiss of 2013 was your favorite? (We all love kissing!) Also, you can just mention the book if you want. Please no spoilers! (For instance, if you tell me Celaena and Chaol kiss in Crown of Midnight, which I haven't read yet, I may go crazy.)

I don't even know how to answer this. (HARD QUESTION!) The Distance Between Us? Fangirl? The Coldest Girl in Coldtown? The 5th Wave? The Rules for Disappearing? How about all the books and all the kissing? ALL OF THEM.

Most Anticipated
What 2014 release are you anticipating the MOST?

Here are ten 2014 releases I'm dying to read, and here are ten sequels I need. But what's my number one? To be honest, I'm not really sure that I have one, but I've been waiting quite some time for Isla and the Happily Ever After (more Etienne!).

Well, that's it for the Class of 2013 YA Superlative Blogfest! Thanks to Tracy Neithercott, Katy Upperman, Jessica Love, and Alison Miller for putting this together and being such great hosts! However, the year isn't over yet. That means I still have more posts that are all about 2013 coming. So stay tuned!

  1. I have too many most anticipated 2014 releases to list them all, but I'll say INTO THE STILL BLUE, ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER, and DREAMS OF GODS AND MONSTERS. Oh, and the next book in Sarah J. Maas' series, of course. (No spoilers!) TFIOS was one of my honourable mentions for best pre-2013 read. Such a great book!

  3. Favorite kiss(es)—I'm sneaking two: The one between Noah and Blue and the "kiss" between Gansey and Blue, both in THE DREAM THIEVES. Most adorable kisses ever.

And there are so many 2014 books I'm dying for (including CRESS, you lucky lady). I can't wait for ISLA AND THE HAPPILY EVER AFTER, INTO THE STILL BLUE, FROZEN, ALIENATED, SPLIT SECOND, and so many more!
