This Tuesday's theme is...
Because it can show that even the coldest bitch in class has a heart. (In other words, if the mean people cry, they have a soul. If they don't cry, well...) (No offense is meant if you read this book and didn't cry!
Because this wasn't a required read, and this literary wonder really should have been.
Because I love this book and it should be a required read just for the writing. It is STUNNING. And it's not just writing; it's storytelling. And also because there's something to be learned here about growing up in various ways.
Because it's different. (In a good way.)
Because it's gritty and shows what life could be like on the streets. (Really, all of her books should be read.)
Because it's 2nd Person POV amazingness.
Because it's a great portrayal of when the government gets too controlling. It's also kind of a future combination of 1984 and Lord of the Flies.
Because it gives a different perspective on something that's huge: looks.
Because it shows what could happen if kids really were in power. (And if you thought you wanted that power, you may think otherwise.)
Because Sarah's books are great contemporaries that can be realistic and have meaningful messages. (All her books should be taught.)
What books do you wish were taught in schools?
I'm going to have to check out a lot of these. I haven't heard about them before, and after checking goodreads a lot of them are something that I'd enjoy.

You've given me a lot of books that I definitely want to check out :-) I have The Hunger Games on my list this week too.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, great picks! I haven't read most of these, but I love the thought you put into them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both TFiOS and Hunger Games, but the rest of the books on your list I haven't read yet..

Review: All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill
This is an interesting list and I actually haven't read quite a few of them. How you describe "Gone" reminds me of Charlie Higson's series... although Gone probably isn't filled with zombie adults... lol!

I love this list so much!! Every book on this list would have made my list had my list not been done in pairings (And a few of them still made that list)
