Top Ten Tuesday (46)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Tuesday's theme is...

Top Ten Favorite Books With X Setting:
Foreign Settings

I know it's not very original, but I just couldn't think of anything else. I looked through my shelves, searching for ideas, and some books with foreign settings just popped out at me. So, here are ten YA books I like that have a foreign (not in North America; sorry, Canada) setting. (And no classics, either, or else Hamlet would be on here.)

Where I Want A One-Way Ticket To:
NEVERLAND
(And a little bit of England. I think.
Round-trip ticket, please.)

Some Tropical Island and London,
But Mostly Some Tropical Island:
DR. MOREAU'S ISLAND

The War-Ridden Danger Zone:
THE CONGO

That Place I Want To Go To and
That I Am A Woman Of:
THE AMAZON

P. Sherman, 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney:
AUSTRALIA

That Country Mulan Saved:
CHINA

I Don't Know What To Say For This One:
HOLLAND

Etienne, Etienne, Etienne:
PARIS, FRANCE

Where Chandler and Monica...
You Know:
LONDON

That Place With The Attic Where Important Things Happen:
AMSTERDAM

What setting did you choose to explore this week?

  1. Great list! I have heard wonderful things about the atmospheric backdrop in The Madman's Daughter, and I agree that the foreign backdrop in Anna was done well. When I finished the book, my first thought was, "Wow, I need to go to Paris and attend this school," but then I remembered SOAP doesn't actually exist. :( Haha.

  2. Great picks! Majority of these are still on my TBR pile but I really liked TFiOS.

  3. I've only read a few of these but I've loved them all. Anna and the French Kiss has one of my favorite settings, as does Meant to Be. I'm going to have to check out Stolen, Endangered, and Origin since those sound like ones I might enjoy. Great list!

  6. Great list! I think I'd go on and on if this was my topic for this week :) I read Girl With the Pearl Earring a few years ago and enjoyed it. Need to revisit that book one of these days...

  10. My big thing is historical, so at this point, I've probably read more European-set books, and a number of Japanese-set books, than books in my own native continent. I should probably branch out a little more and try to find books set in less-familiar-to-me places, like Africa, China, and Persia.
