Here's the deal with this book. I saw it on someone's Waiting on Wednesday and immediately wanted to read it. Not because of the synopsis--no, I don't even really care about the synopsis. (Not that it's bad. It sounds kind of interesting.) This, as I said on Goodreads, is why: "This cover has me SOLD. I could hate this book but I still might buy it because the cover is soooooooo pretty." In my opinion, there is something that is just so pretty and stunning about it and I WANT IT ON MY SHELF.

Zephyr Mourning has never been very good at being a Harpy. She'd rather watch reality TV than learn forty-seven ways to kill a man, and she pretty much sucks at wielding magic. Zephyr was ready for a future pretending to be a normal human instead of a half-god assassin. But all that changes when her sister is murdered--and she uses a forbidden dark power to save herself from the same fate.
Zephyr is on the run from a punishment worse than death when an unexpected reunion with a childhood friend (a surprisingly HOT friend) changes everything. Because it seems like Zephyr might just be the Nyx, a dark goddess made flesh that is prophesied to change the power balance. For hundreds of years the half-gods have lived in fear, and Zephyr is supposed to change that.
But how is she supposed to save everyone when she can’t even save herself?
Sure, it's kind of simple, but there's something about it I just love. And gah, the feathers! When I first saw this it was kind of big and HD-looking on my computer, and I just fell for it.

ReplyDeleteI can see why you were so into the feathers -- I am, too. ^^ And I agree that it sounds rather simple, but could still be great. Thanks for spotlighting this, it's going onto my pile. =)

I just ran across this book yesterday! Sounds like an interesting read. :) Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI know. This cover is so pretty with its black feathers and cool font. I'm definitely looking forward to this one, too. I've been trying to rack my brain to see if I've read anything about harpies before and I don't think I have. Great pick
