Top Ten Best/Worst Movie Adaptations

I've watched a lot of book-to-movie adaptations, some without even realizing it. It was hard to pick ten to discuss, but I did find ten that I really liked, somewhat liked, and disliked, all of which I've read the books of. Have you seen or read any of them?

Note: It's a given that all fairy tales to movies (like Disney's Beauty and the Beast) are epically amazing, The End.

GOOD

The book was fantastic (even better the second time reading it), and the movie itself was pretty darn good. As an adaptation, it was done really well, even though some things were changed.

Confession: I only read books 1-4. And that was in elementary school. (I'm now halfway through college.) Even if these movies weren't books, they're movies that were filmed fantastically.

I love all things Twilight. Even the movies, partly because of how much I love the books. (Total fangirl.) However, I just wish they would've been done better. Harry Potter was done amazingly well--why wasn't that kind of effort put into this adaptation?

OKAY

I hate zombies, but I loved this book. And while I'm not sure that I loved the movie, it wasn't a bad adaptation--or movie, really--with some really great wittiness to it.

I wasn't a big fan of the book, but I wouldn't say that I necessarily disliked the movie. It had its issues, but there aspects that I really liked, making it not-too-shabby.

I'm still on the fence with this one. I have yet to decide what my thoughts are on the movie--I don't think it's love, but I don't think I disliked it, either.

Because I love the book, I can't hate the movie. And the movie wasn't horrible, but it was too fast paced and I just had some issues with. This and I Am Number Four are borderline Not So Good. (I haven't seen either in some time so I don't really remember.)

NOT SO GOOD

Didn't like the book, didn't like the movie. And that sucks, because I love Beauty and the Beast.

I'll admit it's fun to watch the movie sometimes, but it is so cheesy and just ugh that it's kind of a big roll-my-eyes no.

When I first read this book several years ago, I think I really liked it. BUT THE MOVIE. It's a big fat NO. They reversed everything that happened in the book, it was all opposite, and that is not okay.

  4. Definitely agree about The Host - it's on my worst list. Ella Enchanted isn't but it could have been, I only read the book really recently and I was amazed how much better than the film it was!

  7. Ohh! Beastly. I completely forgot about that one, but it was not an adaption I enjoyed. But then again, the book wasn't that fantastic.

  8. Ooh, I forgot about Warm Bodies! I liked the movie, but it was SOOOO different from the book (which I adored). So I probably would've needed an "Okay" category for that one, too. I feel like I have to judge the two SO differently.

And I just said a big "OH NO!" when I saw Beastly in your "Not Good" list. I was really excited to read that one =S

  10. The Harry Potter is wonderful, but you have to finish the series! One of the best out there ever I think.

And I agree about Ella Enchanted. Definitely a bit of a let down.

  11. I have to agree with your initial comment- Disney movies always win hands-down :^)

I am also disappointed by the adaptation of Twilight. The movie for me turned into love-to-hate-it. It was just soooooo campy. The part where Edward takes Bella on his back to scale a tree? What was that about??? The best part is the scenery.

  12. I hated Beastly, the movie, so much. I thought the book was just way better. Twilight was okay for me. The Hunger Games was amazing. Beautiful Creatures was okay but I loved them both. And then the rest of them ..I haven't read the books. Whoops.

  14. Wow! You have some I hadn't even thought of! Beautiful Creatures wasn't great. I enjoyed The Host but agree it was too fast. Twilight and Harry Potter started reading for me so I can't not love the movies :). Awesome list!
