Top Ten Tuesday (40)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

This Tuesday's theme is...

Top Ten Most Intimidating Books

Whether it's because of size, hype, or me not wanting my tear ducts to explode, these books intimidate me. I just keep putting them off!

The Diviners by Libba Bray
Book is HUGE. Now, I love the 20s era, but will it be enough to keep me entertained for a bajillion pages?

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
It's supposed to be an epic romance (I'm trying not to watch the movie until I read the book), but I'm afraid that, given it's an adult book and written a while back, I won't be into it. And frankly, my dear, I'll give a damn.

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein
Historicals--and history in general--just aren't usually my thing. History easily bores me. So I'm afraid to this one. BUT. I've heard it's amazing, and I'm dying to know the context of "Kiss me, Hardy."

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
Another book I've heard is amazing, but that will make me cry waterfalls of tears. After reading TFiOS earlier this year, I'm weary of books that will make me super emotional.

The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
I read the first four books a million years ago and never finished them. (I was in elementary school and not as obsessed with reading.) I want to read them, but there's seven books, they're not short, and there is HYPE. I'm afraid I won't like them. (And they're sort of MG, which isn't my thing, either.)

The Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead
I love vampires, but I'm afraid that, with all the hype, I won't like this six-book series.

The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
There's obviously hype surrounding these books, and that intimidates me. There are a lot of hyped up books I didn't love, and that could be the case here. Plus, I've heard these books kill readers. Oh, boy.

The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini
Another big series, and it's fantasy, which isn't my favorite. But I want to know what's up...Why are you so thick and popular?!

Anything by John Green
The Fault in Our Stars killed me, so I'm terrified to read anything else that has to do with John Green.

Books by friends
When you know someone--even from just a couple conversations--it's hard to read their book(s). What if you don't like it? What do you do? It's very, very intimidating; I don't want to hurt their feelings and I want to love their book(s)!

What books intimidate you?

  1. Great list, completely agree with the books by friends mention - how on earth do you not let them know that maybe you didn't love their book? It took me years to get round to reading Gone With the Wind but I'm so glad I did as I loved it, hope you pick it up one day :)

  2. All great picks! Eragon and Harry Potter are especially good. A few of the others are on my TBR list. :D

  3. The Diviners and Gone With The Wind are a few of my favorites! I think you'd like them and if you don't, then that's okay too!
