The Book
Title: Armored Hearts
Author: Pauline Creeden & Melissa Turner Lee
Publisher: AltWit Press
Publishing Date: May 20, 2013
Pages: 155

When a crippled young lord rescues a girl falling from a tree, it reveals a secret about himself and his mother's side of the family that could put him at the center of a war with beings he thought only existed in fairy tales. Tristan Gareth Smyth lived his entire life stuck at home at Waverly Park, left behind while his Grandfather makes trips to London, all because of his blasted wheelchair. Then an American heiress falls in his lap, literally, and he must find a way to keep her at a distance to protect not only his secret, but everyone around him from an assassin sent to kill him.

The Interview
In the form a tweet, how would you describe Armored Hearts?
A little bit steampunk, a little bit fairy tale, all romance. Future lord or future king, Gareth’s only certainty in life is that he will be stuck with Jessamine.

Where did you get the idea for Armored Hearts, and how did you eventually turn that idea into a story?
Melissa Turner Lee was visited by the character of Gareth ~ she then came to me to help her with the steampunk portion (while keeping it light) and we started brainstorming the story together.

What was it like collaborating with someone on a book? What did it make easier, and what did it make harder?
We work well together – so it wasn’t hard. It’s easiest when both people come in ready to compromise. The only thing that could have made it easier is if we lived closer to each other, I think. But then maybe it would have made it harder because we’d find other things to do…

According to the synopsis, Armored Hearts has a lot of components: heirs, fairy tale creatures, assassins, secrets, and more. Would you mind expanding on that?
Once upon a time, there was a boy born crippled. When he turned twelve, he discovered he could fly. He understood that this was abnormal, so he kept it secret. The fairy tale history that gives him his unusual ability comes with a price, and he has to make decisions that affect the safety of all he has ever known.

What's next after Armored Hearts? Will there be another book you collaborate together on, or will you write on your own?
I’ve got a Zombie novel and a demon riddled space ship both being published in the near future. Additionally, I’m working on another Steampunk novel about a femme fatale body guard.  With Melissa Turner Lee – we’ve got AH2 in the works, along with a contemporary romantic suspense novel that takes place in Alaska!

Fun questions!

Favorite fairy tale?
In Disney, it was always Sleeping Beauty – and now I still wish I could sleep more…

Favorite mythical creature?
Pegasus – I always wanted a flying horse.

Are Bigfoot, mermaids, and the Loch Ness Monster real?
Yes, all three.

Backstreet Boys or N'Sync?
Backstreet Boys

Broccoli or cauliflower?

The Authors
In simple language, Pauline Creeden breaks down Biblical stories and applies them to real life in new ways. Her methods of teaching have brought new light to old scriptures. In her fiction, she creates worlds that are both familiar and strange, often pulling the veil between dimensions. She becomes the main character in each of her stories, and because she has ADD, she will get bored if she pretends to be one person for too long. Website | Twitter

Melissa Turner Lee is  a stay-at-home mom of three of the CRAZIEST boys ever. She's also the wife to a wonderful man she met when at 17, who is also the inspiration behind her awesome Painter series. Melissa has a degree in Journalism and Marketing, which she has never used. One day her husband sent her to the local book store for a day to herself. Melissa picked up Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and her life changed. She remembered being 17, falling in love. But most of all she remembered herself. She'd become "Mommy" and forgotten all about Melissa, the girl who dreamed of being a writer, but suddenly she remembered and the writing started. And It hasn't stopped.
