Top Ten Books Dealing With Tough Subjects

I don't read a whole lot of books dealing with tough subjects because they can be too dark or depressing for me to handle. However, I have read some, and while they aren't all super serious, they're still pretty good. So here are some that I can recall, along with my attempt (I don't remember everything that happened in the books and what exactly the tough subjects were) at the tough subjects they deal with.

Deals with: cutting, loss, mental issues

Deals with: loss, cancer

Deals with: rape

Deals with: appearance issues

Deals with: being homeless, abusive relationships

Deals with: teen pregnancy, loss

Deals with: abusive relationships, family issues

Deals with: autism

Deals with: loss

  1. I completely forgot about Don't Breathe A Word! I would have added it to my list if I'd remembered. Nice post!

  2. I can't believe I still haven't read all of Sarah Dessen's books - I should really get on to that :) Dreamland sounds really good, although everyone keeps raving about Along for the Ride, too!

  3. Ooooh Dog is one of my favorite books, Haddon is a great writter! :) Lovely list!

  4. Fault in Our Stars, Speak, and Dreamland are showing up on SO many lists today! Frankly, I'm embarrassed that I haven't read any of them yet.

    Great list! :)

  5. SPEAK is on my list, too. I've also seen WILLOW on a couple of lists, and this is the second time I've seen DREAMLAND. Also: TFiOS seems to be a favorite across the board. I need to read my copy! Thanks for sharing your picks!

If you'd like, you can check out my list here.

  6. I need to check out some of these! I keep seeing Willow pop up everywhere.
