Top Ten Words/Topics That Instantly Make Me Pick Up A Book
The first thing to usually draw me to a book is the cover or the author. But of course, books are so much more than that (you can't judge a book by its cover.) From there, I go to the synopsis, where I see if anything sparks my interest. So here are some of my sparks!
Vampires: I'm a sucker for vampires (a lot of my favorites feature the bloodsuckers), and there's a high chance that, if a book has vampires, I'll read it.
Example: The Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine
Werewolves: I also love werewolves, and there aren't enough YA books with them.
Example: The Wereling Series by Stephen Cole
Mermaids: I just wish there were more books with these. Not only are mermaids awesome (see: The Little Mermaid), but they live underwater. And I'd love to read about an underwater world.
Example: Of Poseidon by Anna Banks
Animals: I'm a HUGE animal lover, so if a book features something besides a dog or a cat, I'm most likely in.
Example: Endangered by Eliot Schrefer
Location: Europe? Australia? The Amazon? Space? Yes, please!
Example: Origin by Jessica Khoury
Retellings: No explanation necessary.
Example: Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Romance: DUH.
Example: All the books.
Hot Boys: Again, DUH.
Example: All the books.
Guaranteed Cuteness: If the synopsis makes the book off to be a cute one, I just may read it.
Example: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Time Period: I like some periods in the past--early 1900s, the Flapper era--and some in the future.
Example: The Flappers Series by Jillian Larkin

Great list girl! I like the hot boys one! I didn't add that to mine, but I feel like it should have been on there. You're a genius!

I think my list is this:
ReplyDeleteRomance
If it has something dystopian
Magic involved
Hot boys, yes.
Princesses
and of course dragons. :)
Covers draw me in too! I want to see more different locations also! Hot boys are the best! I think seeing some more mermaids would be fun too :)

Mermaids. I just love undersea stories! Makes me want to become a deep sea diver.

Hi! While I'm not a big fan of Paranormal Creatures, I like your other picks, like location and romance/hot boys (swooooon!) and also special time periods! I think especially new settings or different times in history always make for a nice change in reading. And romantic novels just...make my hear melt :D Great list!
ReplyDeleteI love reading about flappers too!
